Reproductive allocation (RA) plays a vital role in the development of ecological strategies during the life cycle of plant species. Invasive alien plants (IAP) may exist at various invasion degrees across a gradient of the colonization process with several grades of relative abundances in the occupied environments. The progressive variation in the invasion degree of IAP has the potential to modify their RA strategy. This study purposes of estimating the RA strategy of the IAP Solidago canadensis L. and the correlations among RA of S. canadensis, the invasion intensity of S. canadensis, the invasiveness of S. canadensis, and the community invasibility across a gradient of invasion degrees by using the field sampling experiment. The height and relative abundance of S. canadensis did not remarkably affect its RA. The RA of S. canadensis was positively related to its reproductive biomass and total biomass. The key reason may be that plant individuals with higher total biomass can allocate more resources into sexual reproduction. The RA of S. canadensis was positively related to its invasiveness. Thus, the RA of S. canadensis may be crucial to its invasiveness.  相似文献

Non thermal (NT) effect of direct radiation 4 Hz-modulated 90–160 GHz of Millimeter Waves (MMW) and preliminary MMW-treated physiological solution (PS) influence were studied on snail isolated neuron, rat's brain tissue hydration and skin penetration. It was shown that the 4 Hz-modulated low intensity 90–160 GHz MMW direct radiation and MMW-treated PS leads to on single neuron shrinkage, skin and brain tissue dehydration. On the basis of obtained data it was suggested that the cell bathing aqua medium serve as a target through which the NT effect of MMW on cell hydration is realized. The MMW-induced brain tissue dehydration can considering as consequence of MMW-induced skin water structural changes leading to unknown messenger formation able to modulate the brain cell hydration. The extrasensitivity of cell hydration to low intensity of MMW radiation allow to recommend cell hydration as a cellular marker for estimation of the NT biological effect of MMW on cells and organisms.  相似文献

A study was conducted with sunflower plants (Helianthus annuus, L.) cv. Peredovik in field experiments, one of which included 9 NPK-fertilizer treatments. The intensity of uptake,i.e. the quantity (mg) of nutrient taken up for the accumulation of 1 g dry matter/day, the concentrations of all essential elements in the plant organ tissues and their distribution among above-ground organs, by stages of development, were investigated. The results have revealed the inherent physiological system responsible for the uptake intensity of individual elements, as well as the simultaneous uptake and distribution of all essential elements of the root nutrition by the shoots, throughout the life cycle of the plant.  相似文献

Abstract A diatom biofilm was grown in a chamber developed for culture of biofilms in chemical gradients. The diatoms grew on a polycarbonate membrane filter which separated a sterile reservoir, with added phosphate, from a reservoir without phosphate. Within 3 weeks of inoculation, a thick biofilm developed on the surface of the filter. The biofilms were homogeneous and therefore suitable for calculations of O2 diffusion fluxes from concentration profiles of O2. Profiles of O2, pH, and gross photosynthesis at different light intensities and liquid medium concentrations of dissolved inorganic carbon and O2 were measured with microelectrodes. Respiratory activity in a layer of the biofilm was determined as the difference between gross photosynthesis and outflux of O2 from that layer. The photosynthetic activity in a well-developed biofilm grown at 360 μEinst m−2 s−1 and 2.4 mM HCO3 was limited by the supply of inorganic carbon. Exposure to light above 360 μEinst m−2 s−1 stimulated gross photosynthesis as well as respiratory processes without affecting net outflux of O2. Higher concentrations of inorganic carbon, on the other hand, enhanced gross photosynthesis without concurrent increase in respiratory rate, resulting in an increased outflux of O2. High concentrations of O2 in the liquid medium decreased the net outflux of O2 with little effect on the gross photosynthesis. The effects of inorganic carbon and O2 on the metabolic activities of the biofilm were consistent with the presence of photorespiratory activity.  相似文献

High interstage variability in body length and mass, reproductive state, and metabolic activity is characteristic of copepod populations from the Barents Sea and coastal waters in Sweden and Norway. The dry weight of a given copepodite stage, sampled at a given time from a homogeneous water mass, may vary by a factor of 4–5 between extreme individuals, protein and particularly lipid content being even more variable. Similarly, high variability in gut fullness and grazing rate within defined copepodite stages typically occurs at all times of the year, both when measured as in situ rate or experimentally determined rate, using homogeneous food suspensions. In accordance with this, maturation state (measured as length of gonads) and spawning (measured as rate of egg production over 24 h) are highly variable factors at the individual level. Since all these factors also influence the metabolic rate of the animals the respiratory rate (measured as ETS activity) of comparable individuals may vary by a factor of 5 or more. The results indicate that high individual variability in size and activity parameters is universal. This can not be explained by existing models of feeding behaviour, growth and development, and calls for new models, in which the nutritional history of the individual may play an important role.  相似文献

The adaptive significance of the emergence mode ofDioscorea japonica was studied with respect to initial plant size (seed, bulbil and tuber) and light intensity, using mathematical simulation based on Yokoi's (1976) model. Under 1.5% full sunlight conditions, plants emerging with only one leaf did not develop a shoot system throughout the growing period (Hori and Oshima, 1986). Simulation indicated that, for this species of plant under poor productive conditions, the optimal time for switch-over from the vegetative to reproductive growth phase to maximize the tuber weight at the end of the growing period, occurred immediately following the start of autotrophic growth. By means of shoot growth patterns, small and large size plants acquired the ability of shade tolerance and shade avoidance, respectively. Further, the life history ofD. japonica could be expressed as a flow chart based on plant size and light intensity data.  相似文献

Aims Grazing intensity and grazing exclusion affect ecosystem carbon cycling by changing the plant community and soil micro-environment in grassland ecosystems. The aims of this study were: 1) to determine the effects of grazing intensity and grazing exclusion on litter decomposition in the temperate grasslands of Nei Mongol; 2) to compare the difference between above-ground and below-ground litter decomposition; 3) to identify the effects of precipitation on litter production and decomposition. Methods We measured litter production, quality, decomposition rates and soil nutrient contents during the growing season in 2011 and 2012 in four plots, i.e. light grazing, heavy grazing, light grazing exclusion and heavy grazing exclusion. Quadrate surveys and litter bags were used to measure litter production and decomposition rates. All data were analyzed with ANOVA and Pearson’s correlation procedures in SPSS. Important findings Litter production and decomposition rates differed greatly among four plots. During the two years of our study, above-ground litter production and decomposition in heavy-grazing plots were faster than those in light-grazing plots. In the dry year, below-ground litter production and decomposition in light-grazing plots were faster than those in heavy-grazing plots, which is opposite to the findings in the wet year. Short-term grazing exclusion could promote litter production, and the exclusion of light-grazing could increase litter decomposition and nutrient cycling. In contrast, heavy-grazing exclusion decreased litter decomposition. Thus, grazing exclusion is beneficial to the restoration of the light-grazing grasslands, and more human management measures are needed during the restoration of heavy-grazing grasslands. Precipitation increased litter production and decomposition, and below-ground litter was more vulnerable to the inter-annual change of precipitation than above-ground litter. Compared to the light-grazing grasslands, heavy-grazing grasslands had higher sensitivity to precipitation. The above-ground litter decomposition was strongly positively correlated with the litter N content (R2 = 0.489, p < 0.01) and strongly negatively correlated with the soil total N content (R2 = 0.450, p < 0.01), but it was not significantly correlated with C:N and lignin:N. Below-ground litter decomposition was negatively correlated with the litter C (R2 = 0.263, p < 0.01), C:N (R2 = 0.349, p < 0.01) and cellulose content (R2 = 0.460, p < 0.01). Our results will provide a theoretical basis for ecosystem restoration and the research of carbon cycling.  相似文献

Abstract In spite of numerous studies on the effect of nutrient levels and/or standing crop on the intensity of resource competition the debate has not been resolved. Field studies that have used natural productivity gradients have generally supported the argument that competitive intensity and resource availability are positively correlated, whereas studies that have used artificial resource gradients have generally refuted the same argument. Here we report the results from study in which both approaches were used within the same system. We studied two species of eucalypt that occupy contrasting parts of the same landscape: Eucalyptus camaldulensis, found mostly along creek lines and in valleys with deep alluvial soils, and Eucalyptus microcarpa, found on hillsides and ridges with shallow soils. We studied the response of seedlings of the two species to the combined effects of competition and manipulated nutrient levels in a glasshouse experiment, and also investigated their responses to removal of neighbouring plants in the field. Eucalyptus microcarpa was less responsive to increased resource availability, which is consistent with one of the principal assumptions of Grime’s C‐S‐R model. In the glasshouse experiment both species of eucalypt responded in a qualitatively similar fashion to the combined effects of resource availability and competition: release from competition resulted in increased growth, but only in pots that received additional resources. In the field we found that neighbouring vegetation could severely limit the establishment of E. camaldulensis but the removal of neighbouring vegetation did not affect the performance of E. microcarpa seedlings. Eucalyptus camaldulensis seedlings suffered high levels of damage from herbivores. Our results thus generally support the predications of the C‐S‐R model, however, they indicate that the effects of competition and herbivory may be heavily confounded.  相似文献

Mean times of onset for calling in Haploa clymene (Brown), Spilosoma virginica (Fabricius), Pareuchaetes insulata (Walker), Cycnia tenera (Hübner), and Euchaetes egle (Drury) advance to earlier times in the photoperiod at lower temperatures. Temperature has no apparent effect on the calling period in Pyrrharctia isabella (J. E. Smith), Spilosoma congrua Walker, and Apantesis nais (Drury). The relationship between the temperatures experienced by each of these species as adults and the response of their calling rhythms to temperature is discussed. Lights-on can elicit calling behaviour in C. tenera, although it is not an absolute requirement because calling eventually begins when lights-on is delayed 4 h and calling also begins prior to lights-on at lower temperatures. Calling periods lengthen in C. tenera and S. congrua when the scotophase is prolonged and in S. congrua after the onset of a lower photophase light intensity (40 lux), suggesting that a higher photophase light intensity (450 lux) inhibits calling and thus causes its termination.
Résumé Aux faibles températures le moment moyen de déclenchement de l'appel apparaît plus tôt au cours de la photopériode chez Haploa clymene Brown, Spilosoma virginica Fab., Pareuchaetes insulata Walk., Cycnia tenera Hübn. et Euchaetes egle Drury. La température n'a apparemment pas d'effet sur le moment où l'appel débute chez Pyrrharctica isabella J.E. Smith, S. congrua Walk. et Apantesis nais Drury.L'analyse porte sur les relations entre les températures subies par les adultes de ces espèces et leurs réactions d'appel aux différentes températures. L'apparition de la lumière peut induire le comportement d'appel chez C. tenera, bien que ce ne soit pas indispensable puisqu'il peut éventuellement commencer à des températures plus basses avant l'illumination quand celle-ci est retardée de 4 heures. Les périodes d'appel sont prolongées avec la scotophase chez C. tenera et S. congrua, et même après l'apparition d'une photophase à faible intensité lumineuse (40 lux), l'appel de S. congrua se poursuit, ce qui suggère que les photophases à intensité lumineuse plus élevée (450 lux) inhibent l'appel et ainsi en provoquent la fin.
